Maybelline I See Blue Great Lash Mascara

Whether you love it or hate it, Great Lash is a classic mascara. I remember using the original Great Lash when I first started wearing mascara! Today, it isn't my favorite, or first choice when it comes to the many options at the drugstore. That aside, I am so happy that my mom bought me this limited edition mascara. The color is so bright, and unexpected!

The shade is called 'I See Blue', and it's a gorgeous bright royal blue.

I really love the way that the blue color brightens up the makeup look. It's so unexpected, and it really makes the lashes pop!

Claims: "Conditions as it thickens. Achieve a full lash look without clumps."
Formula: The formula feels a little dry, but not overly dry, it's smooth and creamy. The color is so bright and it doesn't need more than two coats to look good.
Wand Type: The wand is made of spiraled traditional bristles. It is the same shape as the original Great Lash mascara.
Price/Availability: This was a gift, but I've seen this collection at Walgreens and WalMart

There are a few other shades in this collection, but this is the only one that I have tried.

Likes:
  • Bright color
  • Only a few coats needed to get full color
  • Formula is easy to apply/ non-clumping
  • Makes lashes appear fuller/thicker
  • Lives up to claims
Dislikes:
  • Limited edition
  • The wand shape is okay/nothing too special

Overall:
If you're looking for a mascara to liven up your look, this is the one to get. I enjoy the pigmentation and ease of use with this mascara. 'I See Blue' is probably the easiest colorful mascara I have ever worked with, because it doesn't need to be layered. The formula is on the dry side, but it isn't anywhere near flaky. It made my lashes appear fuller and thicker, but it didn't lengthen much. The wand is very ordinary, but it gets the job done.

Overall, I really adore this blue on the lashes! I just think it's different and fun to wear. I've always liked the idea of colorful lashes, but never actually found a decently pigmented mascara until now. Good job Maybelline, I'm impressed!

  1. The shade is indeed a very nice one, but it is not that wearable. On you looks very nice, artistic, paired with that lipstick, but I wouldn't wear it. The original formula of this mascare is not one of my favorites, at the drugstore you can find other great choices.

  2. Wow, I'm surprised at how blue it looks.! Most colored mascaras I've tried don't look nearly as bright on the lashes.

  3. I just picked up a few for myself and for my friends! I love these for a pop on the bottom lash! On the top, I find it doesn't add much volume or hold a curl. Though, they're really fun and inexpensive! I love that blue shade!

    1. I noticed that too, but this mascara doesn't claim to be volumizing or hold curl, so it didn't bother me. I love the color, and the price is great! :)

  5. I've never seen a blue mascara this bright, it's amazing - I wouldn't personally wear it, as I'm a neutral girl all over, but it looks really amazing on you! I've never seen blue mascara look so good.

  8. Oh I love this I love this I love this! I've played around with blue mascara in the past but the colour of this is just lovely! Sometimes people, me included, can forget that make-up can be about having fun and this is a wonderful example of how it can be both fun and stylish. A wonderful review as always too xx

  9. Aww, thank you so much Angelica! I too forget to have fun with makeup, especially when I have to keep it 'neutral' at work. Sometimes it's nice to add a pop of color.

  10. I have the green and teal shades and they don't show up anywhere near this vibrant on me, and my lashes fade to light at the tips. Did you use a white primer?

    1. Nope, this is just the mascara. I would have mentioned if I used a primer :) My lashes are light brown with blonde tips naturally.

  13. Oh wow, it's much more pigmented and vibrant than I expected - it really does coat your lashes and make you look like you have completely electric blue eyelashes :) What a unique and fun way to wear colour on your eyes!

  17. I have their regular line Royal Blue Great Lash.

As quite a few people have said on Amazon.com,youtube,Make Up Alley,Total Beauty and other make up review sites,it's a *tiny* scimpy little brush, the smallest I have ever seen and had and your not going to get that much volume with it. The Maybelline describes it as adding length and volume. The blue color doesn't even hardly show up on my medium dark brown lashes even with 2 coats it's closer to navy almost black but slightly more blue than black. On the brush and on tissue paper it looks lighter and a true royal blue color that it's supposed to appear on your lashes.

It's a whole size smaller than a regular size mascara brush. I had to wash an older Loreal Voluminous mascara brush that is a regular size brush (which is a great inexpensive mascara for volume) and put it into the Great Lash tube, but it doesn't fit well enough for the cap to screw on and close up,so now I had to wrap heavy duty foil around it with rubber bands also around it and put it in a plastic storage bag and hope that it doesn't dry up and or go bad!

  18. Hollie,

Can you please review if you try it,The recent NYX Color Mascaras, they have a rich blue one, purple and brown colors.I just bought the blue one yesterday but I haven't tried it yet.It has mixed reviews as many different brands of colored mascaras do,even the more expensive ones.On Amazon.com there is only 4 reviews for the blue one and it gets 5 star reviews, and so does the only one for the purple color.

It has more good reviews than bad on the NYX site but it's only about 14 reviews total. And on Ulta a make up artist gave a 5 star review for the purple, and there aren't a whole lot of reviews for it on Ulta either but there are more there than on the other two sites, and there are some bad reviews but more good reviews there. At least it has a nice regular size mascara brush, not the ridiculously small one the Great Lash has!
