Jordana 12 HR Made to Last Eyeshadow Pencils

I'm usually not a fan of eyeshadow pencils. I have tried so many different ones over the years, and none of them actually impressed me..until I discovered these! I first mentioned the Jordana 12 Hour Made to Last shadow pencils in my recent Jordana haul, which you can see here. These are definitely a new favorite of mine!

There are eight pencils in this line. Half have a matte finish, half have a shimmery finish. I want to quickly mention that I purchased all of the shades I could find at the store, and Jordana Cosmetics generously provided me with each pencil later on.

As you can see, all of the colors are beautiful! These pencils need to be manually sharpened, or else the tips will dull over time.

Here are swatches from left to right: Prolong Purple, Endless Emerald, Aqua Last, Pink Evermore, Eternal White, Continuous Almond, Stay-On Black, and Tenacious Brown. These swatches are without primer, and are only one swipe!

Prolong Purple is a deep purple with subtle silver shimmer.  Endless Emerald is a forest green with subtle silver shimmer. Aqua Last is a bright blue, it has shimmer in it, but it's hardly noticeable. Pink Evermore is a soft pink that has tons of silver shimmer. Eternal White is a matte white, it is a bit patchy compared to the rest. Continuous Almond is a matte peachy shade. Stay-On Black is a super dark, matte black. Tenacious Brown is a matte chocolate brown.

Claims: Long-lasting (Up to 12 Hour wear), Easy to use, Water-Resistant, Crease-Proof, Paraben-Free, Made in Germany
Pigmentation: These are amazingly pigmented, you only need one swipe to get full color. There's no building up needed with these, which is a HUGE plus!
Finish/Texture: Half of these are matte, the other half are shimmery. The texture of these are super creamy, soft, and silky. They are the softest eye pencil I have ever tried. Ever!
Lasting Power: These lasted me all day, I believe that the 12 hour claim is true.
Packaging: These are a pencil, they will need to be manually sharpened. The caps on these are a bit loose-fitting, that's my only complaint about these.
Price/Availability: I paid $4 each at Walgreens, for the shades I bought. Jordana Cosmetics also sent me the entire line.

Likes:
  • Lives up to ALL claims
  • Super pigmented
  • Very creamy, smooth, and soft
  • Doesn't tug on the eye
  • Last all day long/waterproof/sweat proof
  • Variety of shades and finishes to chose from (matte and shimmer)
  • Inexpensive, $4 at Walgreens
Dislikes:
  • The caps on the pencils are loose-fitting
  • These pencils need to be manually sharpened

Overall:
I was surprised at how well these performed. Like I said earlier, I  honestly never had a good experience with shadow pencils before. I'm so glad that I decided to give these a try anyway, because they are amazing.

I wore these alone, as an eyeshadow base, and as an eyeliner (on my bottom lashline even) and I had no smudging. They apply so smoothly, and are super pigmented with one swipe. They are inexpensive, and  the quality is simply wonderful. I still can't believe these are just four dollars. I feel like I cant say enough good things about these shadow pencils!

Thank you to Jordana Cosmetics, who provided me with these pencils! I'm so happy, because I could only find a few shades at the store.

Here's my video review on them, if you would like to watch!

Covergirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil and Shadow Pots

Hi there everyone! Today's reivew is going to be about two products that I mentioned earlier in my What's New at the Drugstore for Covergirl post. As you all know, I'm not usually a fan of Covergirl. I feel that these products really highlighted the so-so feelings I have about the brand. I was eager to try the Flamed Out  Shadow Pencils and Shadow Pots when they first released, but now I realize that they aren't anything special.

330 Melted Caramel (left) and 335 Scorching Cocoa.

Claims: "Flamed Out Shadow Pots pack a punch of vivid color in perfectly sized pots so you can mix, match, and blend to customize blazing hot hues."
Pigmentation: At first the pigmentation seems great, but within a few hours the color fades. There are big chunks of white glitter that leave fallout everywhere.
Finish/Texture: The finish is so shimmery that it's almost metallic. The texture is somewhat gritty due to the large pieces of glitter.
Lasting Power: These shadows only lasted a few hours with and without primer. I was so disappointed by the wear time of these, because the pigmentation looks great at first.
Packaging: I have two major issues with the packaging. First, the shade names aren't listed on the bottom sticker, only the number which is always annoying. Second, the plastic lid is so flimsy, that it can easily twist off at any moment.
Price/Availability:  I paid $5 for one and $2.50 for the other (BOGO 50% off) at Rite Aid

Likes:
  • Good selection of colors
Dislikes:
  • Color fades quickly
  • Fallout is inevitable
  • Texture is gritty
  • Overall bad quality and value
  • Packaging is flimsy

350 Melted Caramel Flame

Claims: "Two versatile products in one brilliant pencil! With Flamed Out Shadow Pencil, you get vivid, creamy color plus the definition of eyeliner for the bold eye looks you crave.
Pigmentation: The pigmentation is ok. The color  is more frosty than I would like. I feel that the brown tone is overwhelmed with silver. Definitely something I wouldn't wear alone.
Finish/Texture: The finish is too frosty for my liking. The texture is very smooth, but it isn't creamy.  It also gives a cooling sensation when applied.
Lasting Power: I had about four hours wear before this started to crease and fade on me. When I tried to use it as a base, the color still faded around four hours but it didn't crease. Used as an eyeliner, it smudged around two hours.
Packaging: This is a pencil that you will manually have to sharpen. Which I hate!
Price/Availability:  I paid $7.50 at Rite Aid

Likes:
  • Smooth texture
  • Cooling sensation feels nice on the eyes
Dislikes:
  • The color is masked by white frost
  • Pencil needs to be manually sharpened
  • Doesn't work well as a base or eyeliner
  • Bad value for the quality
  • Doesn't live up to claims

From top to bottom: 350 Melted Caramel Flame Shadow Pencil, 335 Scorching Cocoa Shadow Pot, and 350 Melted Caramel Shadow Pot.

Melted  Caramel Flame is a cool taupe with white frost. Scorching Cocoa is a warm medium brown with white sparkle. Melted Caramel is a warm light brown with white sparkle. These swatches were all taken without primer.

Overall:
At first glance these products look promising, but when it comes down to performance, they don't deliver. I felt that the shadows were too gritty and had too much fallout for my liking. The color fades quickly throughout the day, and the glitter just seems to somehow get all over my face no matter how many times I wipe it off. The shadow pencil is more pigmented than the powder shadows, but the color wears off during the day just the same. When used as a base and an eyeliner, it creases and smudges terribly. The cooling sensation that it gives is great, but it only lasts during application. Both of these products also have major packaging issues! The shadow pots are unnamed on the sticker (one of my biggest pet peeves) and the lids pop off with the slightest twist. The shadow pencil is really a pencil, so you will need to have a jumbo pencil sharpener in your collection in order to keep using it.

I am usually not a fan of Covergirl eyeshadows because I feel that the poor quality is never worth the price they ask. If you could somehow get these products on sale, or clearance rather, they might be worth it. There are much better options at the drugstore that are better in quality and in price!

I also made a video review of these products, which you can watch on Youtube, here.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeshadow Sticks

Eyeshadow sticks are becoming increasing popular with drugstore makeup brands, which I'm really excited about! After seeing rave reviews on these new Rimmel Scandaleyes sticks, I had to get a few and try them out for myself. Personally, I don't understand the hype.

Out of the nine shades available, I chose Bad Girl Bronze (left) and Bulletproof Beige (right).

Wrist swatches of Bad Girl Bronze (bottom) Bulletproof Beige (top) and eye swatch Bad Girl Bronze (on lid) and Bulletproof Beige (in crease and browbone).

My main reason for disliking these is that they tug on the eyes, which irritated the delicate skin around my eye area. In my wrist swatches I used two swipes, and the color payoff looks great. On my eye I did the same, but the payoff isn't as intense and looks rather patchy. Bulletproof Beige looks almost nonexistent, which disappointed me!

Claims: "High impact colour Precision tip applicator Ultra soft formula glides on smoothly High-shine and luminous finish."
Pigmentation: The pigmentation isn't the best. The wrist swatches look amazing, but once applied on the eye they look patchy.
Finish/Texture: The finish of these two shades is metallic. The texture of the stick itself was a bit hard, to the point where it tugged on the eyes. I didn't find the formula very creamy or smooth. It was rather average, I was expecting silky smoothness!
Lasting Power: About an hour after after I applied the sticks the color started fading even more so than it looks in my photo. However, I didn't experience any creasing.
Packaging: These eyeshadow sticks have to be manually sharpened, which ends up wasting product. I prefer the twist up packaging like NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils.
Price/Availability: I paid $5 each at Walgreens

Likes:
  • Variety of shades
  • Can be used as a base for eyeshadow
  • inexpensive
Dislikes:
  • Color fades quickly
  • Pigmentation is lacking
  • Formula isn't creamy
  • Tugs during application
  • Must be sharpened which wastes product
  • Doesn't live up to any of the claims
Overall:
I wasn't impressed with these eyeshadow pencils. They aren't as pigmented on the eyes as they appear when swatched. I tried to build up the color, but the finished look turned out patchy every time. My main issue with these is that they are a bit drying and they tug during application. I would never wear these eyeshadow sticks alone, but they can be useful as a base. I however, feel that these tug too much and irritate the delicate skin around the eyes. Another problem is that they have to be manually sharpened, which wastes product.

I know that these pencils are being raved about almost everywhere, but I honestly don't believe they are anything special. There are other drugstore eyeshadow pencils out there that perform excellently compared to the Rimmel Scandaleyes sticks!
