Hard Candy Contouring Face Trios!

Hey everyone, I'm back again with another drugstore review from Hard Candy! Usually Hard Candy is a hit or miss type of brand for me, but I'm beyond impressed with these new Contouring Face Trios. I absolutely love these because they are nicely pigmented, easy to blend, and convenient! 

The packaging is a bit bulky, but cute and sturdy nonetheless! This is a 3 in 1 type of product, you get a blush, bronzer, and highlighter all in one. Each trio has a smooth texture and is nicely pigmented. I found mine at Wal Mart for $9 each.

Claims: "Illuminate, contour and highlight with So Baked Sculpting Trio for a healthy looking, captivating glow. The baked trio includes a luminizer for highlighting cheekbones, a satin-finish blush for cheeks and a glowing bronzer that helps contour and define."
Finish/Texture:Each of these trios has a shimmery finish and a satiny smooth texture.
Pigmentation: The pigmentation is amazing, each section gives bold color.
Lasting Power: I had no fading at all with any of these trios, they last all day on my skin.
Scent: There is no scent.
Packaging: These are packaged in a big, sturdy plastic compact, no mirror is included.
Price/Availability: I paid $9 each at WalMart

Likes: 

• Great pigmentation
• Variety of shades to choose from
• Inexpensive
• Smooth Texture/Easy to blend
• Multi-purpose 
• Great quality

Dislikes:

• Bronzers are not matte (personally I don't mind)

Overall:
Although Hard Candy is usually a hit or miss brand for me, I highly recommend trying these contouring face trios! They give you such a beautiful glow to your skin, while providing the convenince of having all of your cheek products in one palette. Each shade in the trios has a shimmery satin finish with great pigmentation. While I don't think these are the best for major contouring or highlighting, they are simply perfect to add a little extra spice to an everyday makeup look.

Milani Rose Powder Blushes

Remember the limited edition rose blushes Milani released last year? Well Milani did it again for Spring 2014, with four new shades of cute rose-shaped blush goodness! I'm thrilled to say that Milani sent me these for review, so I didn't have to hunt them down at all. I couldn't even get my hands on last year's collection, and I haven't seen these ones in my area at all. *Sigh of relief * 

Hopefully you all can get your hands on at least one of these blushes, because they are by far my favorite Milani blush I've used, even over the increasingly popular baked blushes!  

There are only four shades in this collection, and they all have a matte finish. These are limited edition, so once they sell out they will be gone for good! UGH.

Coral Cove is a bright coraly orange. Tea Rose is a muted cool toned pink. Love Potion is a bright hot pink (it pulls a bit red on me). Lady Rouge is a deep warm toned red.

These swatches were done with two swipes each. The texture is hard to swatch, it had a slippery/powdery finish to it that is not the easiest to work with. I find that a blush brush is the best way to apply these. 


Claims: "An ultra silky-soft powder blush that delivers the perfect amount of color and easily blends onto cheeks."
Finish/Texture: The finish on each blush is very matte. The texture is somewhat powdery, which makes applying these a bit tricky. I find that using a brush is best, but the texture does make swatching difficult. 
Pigmentation: These are all very pigmented, a little bit goes long way. Especially for someone with my skin tone. I love the shade selection too.
Lasting Power: These had no problem lasting on my skin all day long. I would say these lasted me a good 10 hours, even on hot days.
Scent: These do have strong plasticy cheap scent at first, but it fades after you use them up a few times. Weird I know, but just pointing that out.
Packaging: You get 0.6 oz of blush in each compact. The compact is made of sturdy plastic, but it's bulky! These babies take up a ton of room.
Price/Availability: I was sent these for review by Milani. I've heard that they are available on their website and at Walgreens for $8-$10 each.


Likes:

• Very pigmented
• Pretty shades to choose from (suit all skin tones)
• Beautiful matte finish
• Great lasting power (10+ hours)

Dislikes:

• Limited edition (hard to find)
• Powdery texture/can be patchy
• Difficult to work with
• A bit pricey for drugstore

Overall:

I love the pretty shades and the beautiful matte finish that these rose blushes have. They lasted all day and night on me, even through the work days. Each shade is intensely pigmented, enough that even a deep skin tone could pull off. I prefer the finish and overall look of these blushes over the Milani baked blush line! Gasp! 

With that being said, these blushes aren't perfect. They have a powdery texture that makes application a bit messy. They can also be a bit patchy when blending onto the skin, which means that these take time to apply. However, I still really love Tea Rose and those little problems are something I'm willing to compromise. 

I would only recommend these blushes to the die hard Milani fans out there like me, or to the people who appeal to some of the gorgeous shades. The rose shapes are super cute, and the shade selection is amazing. I feel like any skin tone could pull off the blushes from this collection, which is something that we need more of at the drugstore!

Physicians Formula Powder Palette Multi-Colored Custom Blush

I have tried so many Physicans Formula blushes over the years, mainly because of their cute packaging! Remember the Happy Boosters? Even though Physicians Formula is considered to be a 'higher end' brand at the drugstore, I still find that most of their products are hit or miss with me. Fortunately, I ended up loving their latest blush line, the Powder Palette Multi-Colored Custom Blush! I bought the shade 'Blondes'.

The bright pink packaging definitely caught my eye! What can I say, I secretly love pink.

As you can see, the blush is has a pretty mosaic pattern. It looks a bit sparkly in the pan, but when swatched, it turns into a beautiful  subtle shimmery finish.

Here is one layer of 'Blondes' swatched. I ADORE the finish, it's a beautiful subtle shimmer. It looks very healthy and natural on the skin. The cool toned peachy-pink shade also flatters my pale complexion nicely! It's pigmented, so a little goes a long way. 

There is only one other shade in this line, and it's for 'Brunettes'. I really would have liked to see more shades in the line, I mean come on what about us Ravens and Redheads?! 

I suggest to get whichever shade you think will compliment your skin tone. 

Claims: "Ultra-Glam Bombshell Glow! Compliments your hair color. The Perfect Blush for Your Hair Color. Versitile & Glamorous Glow."

Finish/Texture: The finish is a subtle shimmer, very similar to a Milani baked blush finish. The texture is soft and blendable, but not powdery. 

Lasting Power: This blush didn't have the best lasting power, it started to fade around 6-7 hours on my dry skin. I usually don't have to worry about fading, but I feel like the soft texture of this blush makes it fade quickly.

Scent: There is no scent to this blush.

Packaging: Adorable! I love the hot pink case, it's sturdy and not as bulky as some of their other products. There is also a nice mirror at the the bottom, but the brush it comes with is cheap and scratchy.

Price/Availability: I paid $10.75 at Rite Aid

Overall: 

I really love this blush! It has a subtle satin finish that is absolutely gorgeous, the color is beautiful and the texture is very easy to work with! 

I'm glad that the hot pink packaging caught my eye, because I can't get enough of this blush. I've mentioned it countless times in my latest videos, and every time I wear it, I always get compliments! Maybelline Master Glaze Blush Sticks

I am beyond excited that Maybelline recently added six blush sticks to their permanent Face Studio line. I haven't seen a blush stick at the drugstore in ages, since the awful Revlon Baby Stick incident. Let me tell you, these are fantastic. I could not be happier that Maybelline has given the drugstore some great blush stick options!  

These little tubes are so cute! I bought 3 shades: Coral Sheen, Just Pinched Pink, and Pink Fever.

Pink Fever is a bright cool toned pink,. Coral Sheen is a bright warm coral, it almost looks like a true orange. Just Pinched Pink is a cool toned mauve. These have a very subtle amount of shimmer, it's only noticeable in the natural light.  Swatches are 2 swipes each.

Claims: "Cheeks go dewy and gently glazed with this portable, creamy blush stick.

Glazed pearls and shea butter glide provide blendable, natural color and smooth, even application.Fragrance Free. Non-comedogenic. Suitable for all skin types."

Finish/Texture: The finish is a bit dewy at first, but it dries down to a satin. These have a very pretty subtle shimmer . The texture is so creamy, you could easily use your fingers to blend these out! They glide on the skin so smoothly, it's great.

Lasting Power: Alone these lasted about 5 hours, which is more than I expected (note that I do have dry skin). Over foundation these lasted about 8 hours before they started to fade. I was very impressed with the wear time! 

Scent: These do not have scent, yay! 

Packaging: They come in a small plastic tube (very similar to the NYX cream blushes). After the cap is removed, the stick can be easily twisted up/down. 

Price/Availability: I paid $9.30 for each blush stick at CVS.

Dislikes:

• Blush does not twist down all the way into the tube (I know this problem will go away over time, so it's not a big deal)

Overall:

Maybelline has set the standard for cream blush sticks at the drugstore!  I'm so pleased with these blush sticks, overall I think they are going to be a huge drugstore hit. 

Although they are about ten dollars with tax, these will last you a while. They are nicely pigmented, so a little really goes a long way. They blend out effortlessly, even with my dry skin. These have shimmer to them, but it is very subtle, and once it's blended out it's barely noticeable. The lasting power is nice too, and there are a variety of shades to choose from, although I wouldn't mind seeing more collections in the future! 

I'm excited to see what other brands may do to follow up, I'm hoping for a blush stick trend this spring.. is that just me?

New Revlon Powder Blushes

Revlon powder blushes never really impressed me, until now! Revlon has seriously improved the formula on their blushes, and they've added tons of new shades to choose from! These blushes are a part of their new 'Cheek Boutique' line, which also includes new highlighters and cream blush (display here). The two I purchased are Oh Baby Pink and Haute Pink.

Oh Baby Pink is a matte peachy pink. Haute Pink is a matte bright pink. 

Claims: I couldn't find any claims on these yet.

Finish/Texture: These have a matte finish. The texture is silky, but not powdery. It feels very similar to a NYX blush, except these are a bit more stiff to the touch.

Lasting Power:  have worn this blush for 10+ hours without any fading. Very long wearing!

Scent: These don't have a scent.

Packaging: The brush is very cheap, but other than that the packaging is fine.

Price/Availability: I paid $8 each at Bed Bath and Beyond.

Overall:

These new Revlon blushes are such a treat! They remind me a lot of Smashbox and MAC powder blushes, except for they are a fraction of the price! Can you tell I'm obsessed with these yet?

The texture is amazing, it's silky to the touch without being powdery. The pigmentation is crazy good, a little goes a long way. The lasting power is incredible, I'd definitely say they are great for all day wear. I love the way that they blend out so easily, that anyone can get a perfect flush. I really have nothing bad to say about the formula here, it's wonderful!

Elf Baked Blushes

I finally gave in and bought some elf baked blushes, after seeing so many rave reviews I had to try them. I couldn't believe how beautiful they looked in the packaging, so bright and colorful. Unfortunately, these disappointed me more than any other elf product that I have ever tried. These didn't live up to any of their claims at all, and the finish is too shimmery to be worn as a blush for me. 

The packaging is very basic, I bought the shades Pinktastic and Passion Pink.

Here are swatches of the blushes: Passion Pink (left) and Pinktastic (right). 

The first swatches were done dry, and the seconds swatches were done wet. As you can see, Passion Pink isn't very pigmented. Passion Pink is a pearly light pink shade. Pinktastic, is a very pretty rose gold shade. I like both of these colors, but the finish is just too frosty for me to use as a blush. 

Claims: "The soft and shimmering color of our Baked Blush creates a natural healthy glow. Baked in an oven, these blushes offer rich pigmentation for a beautiful effect. The long-lasting formula provides a gorgeous, smooth and even application. Infused with active key ingredients Jojoba, Rose, Sunflower, Apricot and Grape to nourish and hydrate the skin. "
Finish/Texture: The finish is very frosty, more like a highlighter. The texture is unbelievably hard, I had to scrape and scrape to get off product. My makeup brushes couldn't pick up the blush easily, I had to use my fingers with these.
Lasting Power: I wore one of these to work as a highlight, and by the end of my shift it was gone. This didn't even last three hours on my skin, the color faded terribly. 
Scent: These have a very odd plastic scent that is overwhelming! I've never had a cheek product smell so bad before. 
Packaging: The blushes are housed in small plastic pots, with lids that barely want to snap shut. I can see the lids falling off in the near future. 
Price/Availability: I paid $3 each for these at Wal Mart. 

Likes:

• The colors are pretty
• Inexpensive

Dislikes:

• These don't live up to any claims
• Odd plastic smell
• Texture is very hard
• Packaging is cheap
• Poor staying power
• Too shimmery to be used as blush

Overall:
These baked blushes were absolutely mediocre. I don't blame the fact that they were only three dollars, because elf does make some great products. These weren't one of them. 

The texture of these blushes was so hard, that none of my makeup brushes wanted to pick up product. I had to rub and scrape beyond belief to just get a swatch! The staying power was very poor, all of the color faded after about three to four hours. These have an overwhelming plastic smell that's is just awful, I can't even explain how bad it smelled. To top it all off, the finish of these blushes are way too shimmery. I would never like to wear these as a blush, it just looks overdone to me. They can be used as a highlighter, but the quality just isn't worth keeping.

Revlon Baby Sticks

Revlon released a sneek-peek photo of the Baby Sticks on Instagram during fashion week. Since then, I couldn't wait to get my hands on them! Baby Sticks are part of the new Pacific Coast Collection by Gucci Westman, which are being released alongside the new lip butters (you can read my review with swatches here).  I was thrilled when I found these at my local CVS yesterday, but unfortunately they didn't turn out to be everything that I hoped.

Baby Sticks are marketed as cream blushes that can be used for lips and cheeks. 

As you can tell, you get very little product! These are twisted up all the way.

Sunset is a  sheer warm orange. Pink Passion is a sheer (but most pigmented of the bunch) cool bright pink. Tahiti is a sheer cool peach. All of them had a very waxy texture that was extremely difficult to build up (medium-hard pressure is needed). The swatches here are three swipes each. One-two swipes wasn't enough to get the color to show up.

Claims: I couldn't find any claims on these from the packaging or Revlon website. 

Finish/Texture: The finish is slightly shiny but not dewy. It reminds me of a lip stain in stick form. The stick itself is very hard, and makes application difficult. Once the product is on the skin it feels waxy, not creamy at all. Blending is quite difficult.

Lasting Power: Pink Passion stained my wrist. I couldn't even get it off with makeup remover! I'm not sure how it wears on the face, I didn't feel comfortable with this texture on my skin.

Scent: There is a strong plastic scent with these, maybe caused by the packaging?

Packaging: The small plastic tubes have lids that close securely. The sticks twist up and down easily, my problem is that Sunset's tip broke off completely! Swatch carefully, these might break on you as they did with me. 

Price/Availability: I paid $9.30 each at CVS, I'm not sure if these are permanent or LE

Likes:

• Nice idea (Cream sticks aren't common at the drugstore)

Dislikes:

• Retail for $9.30 (before tax) each for only 0.1 ounce of product! 
• Waxy texture/ Difficult to layer
• Colors are too sheer
• Chemical scent
• Only 3 colors to choose from
• Poor quality, Sunset broke off when I swatched it!

Overall:

I was really disappointed in the low quality and poor value of the Revlon Baby Sticks. The hard, waxy texture and sheer color payoff really saddened me. The texture is difficult to layer, and hard to blend on the skin. One of my sticks completely broke off while I was swatching it, and I was barely using pressure. At almost ten dollars a piece, for 0.1 ounce of product, I would rather take my money elsewhere!

Revlon Photo Ready Cream Blush

The Revlon Photo Ready range isn't one of my favorites when it comes to drugstore makeup. When these cream blushes were released in the summer, I was a bit apprehensive about picking them up right away. All in all, it is hard for me to resist such a bright, hot pink pot of blush!

I bought the shade Flushed, which appears to be a bright fuchsia. The packaging is very simple, which doesn't bother me at all. What does bother me is that I had to pay $13 at Rite Aid for only 0.44 ounces of product. That is steep for being a drugstore item.

Claims

• Creamy blush provides buildable, beautiful flush of color
• Lightweight formula with silky soft feel on skin
• Blends evenly over cheeks for smooth application
• Photochromatic pigments bend and reflect light to provide cheeks with a beautiful glow

The little pot instantly reminds me of the old Bobbi Brown pot rouge packaging, but they are both completely different and incomparable. I like that the name is right on the top, so I can see it easier among my sea of blushes in my drawer! 

Unfortunately, the bright pink here is not exactly what you get when the blush is applied to the skin. I was a bit disappointed because these really do lack in pigmentation. To get a decent flushed look, at least four layers are needed. 

In order for the swatch to even show up in this photo, I had to use about four layers of blush. I also didn't see any glow that it claims to give to the skin. The color is very pretty, but you really have to use your time and build up the color for a few minutes. 

The best thing about this blush is that it does feel very lightweight and is wearable. In this photo I had been wearing the blush for about an hour or so, and it had already faded quite a bit. 

Application: I used my fingers to apply this blush, for me it's the easiest way to get a smooth finish. When I tried using a brush the color barely showed up, and layering was difficult. 

Finish/Texture: The finish is creamy and sheer. The texture feels like a lip balm, it's really bizarre for a cream blush. I suppose that's why it felt very lightweight on the skin. 

Lasting Power: The lasting power was horrible. It was nonexistant basically. Barely an hour later most of the color was gone! 

Scent: There wasn't a scent at all, yay! ( I hate scented face products).

Packaging: The packaging is basic, just a small pot with a twist off lid. Similar to the old Bobbi Brown pot rouge packaging. 

Price/Availability: I spent $13 at Rite Aid. I'm sure you could find it cheaper at a Target or Wal-Mart. Available at most drugstores

Likes:

• Wearable 
• Feels lightweight and creamy
• Blends nicely and evenly

Dislikes:

• Very sheer
• Color fades quickly
• Difficult to build up color
• Expensive, $13 
• Doesn't give a glow to the skin

Overall:

I was expecting a bright burst of color from this cream blush, and instead I got a natural flush that faded within an hour. Don't get me wrong, I like a natural flush too, but this blush wasn't worth keeping since the wear time was next to nothing. When I put on blush, I want it to stay looking fresh all day. I don't recommend the Photo Ready cream blush line, simply because it requires too much work for what it's worth. Sorry, Revlon better luck next time! 

My First QVC Purchase: Laura Geller's Ethereal Duo!

About a week ago, I found myself bored to death scrolling through my tv guide, and then I saw the title "Laura Geller Makeup". I had always wanted to try Laura Geller's Spackle and her baked blush, so I was ecstatic when I saw this duo for $40 on QVC. Both of these products alone are at least $40, so this was a great value. The more I watched, the more I was tempted to buy. That should be the QVC slogan!

This is the cute packaging! The name "Ethereal Duo" is due to the satin finish of the blush, that promises a natural flush. The primer in this duo is the newest edition of the Spackle family: Ethereal Spackle. It's an illuminating face primer that gives the face an "ethereal glow". 


What's Inside:

The Spackle actually is colorless, but in the tube it looks like it has a flesh tint to it. The blush is composed of two beautiful shades that can be used together, or separately. 

About the Blush:

The peachy shade is "Ethereal Rose" and the pinky shade on the right is "Subtle Orchid".  Laura Geller describes her blush as a "Sateen finish" which is comparable to a satin finish. It's very glowy, not shimmery. The texture is smooth, and not powdery at all. This is the perfect blush for people who want luminous color without shimmer.

About the Spackle:

I've been dying to try Spackle for a while now, and I'm really excited that I get to try the newest edition of the line: Ethereal Spackle. This primer is to be used under makeup, and it promises to give a " brighter and extra-luminous" glow to the skin. I will also be posting a full review on this product after I use it enough. I'm having high expectations for this one, so I'm going to be wearing tomorrow on an all-day trip to Disneyland! 

Overall Thoughts:

The Blush:
I can't wait to see what this blush will do to brighten up my complexion. There are so many ways that I can pair these colors up on the cheeks! I'm not sure if I'm going to swirl the two colors together, or if I want to use them separately. I'll be doing a full review after I get to use it a couple of times! 

The Spackle:
I'm hoping that this primer will be able to make my makeup last all day, as well as provide me with a bright, luminous, glow to my face. I've heard so many great things about this product, and I hope that it will perform the way that I'm expecting it to. It's also one of the most expensive primers I've tried, and I hope that it doesn't turn out to be a waste of money.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Pink Frosting

When I first saw the Dream Mousse line by Maybelline, I was instantly intrigued. Mousse for your face? I'm in.

Claims:

"Air-soft formula provides luminous, long-lasting color on cheeks. Glides on smoothly and blends easily for seamless color and a natural, radiant finish. Long-wearing formula will not clog pores."

Application:

I always apply this after my foundation, with my fingers. The warmth of my fingertips blends out the blush perfectly on my skin. Using a brush causes the product to cling more on the brush instead of the skin, so fingers are best for this product. All I do to apply this is gather a dime amount on my finger and smooth onto my cheekbones in a circular motion.

Texture:

The blush is light and airy to the touch. It really does feel like mousse! it doesn't get clumpy when you smooth it on, as the Dream Mousse Foundation does.  There are noticeable chunks of glitter, which I don't fancy, but I put up with it because I love the formula so much.

Scent:

It has a slight vanilla scent to it. Nothing too strong.

Price:

$6-$8 

I got mine for about $7 at Wal-Mart

Packaging:

The glass jar is so annoying to store. It's bulky and excessive. I prefer packaging that doesn't take up too much space. 

Likes:

• Effortless to blend
• Bright color
• Unique texture
• Easy application
• Gives a glow to the skin

Dislikes:

• Bulky packaging
• Hard to find in stores
• Has noticeable glitter chunks
• Not long-wearing

Overall:

I was pleased with how easily these blend out on the skin. The mousse formula really allows for effortless application. The blush does give a subtle glow and dewiness to the skin, which lives up to the claims. I'm not sure if it's long-wearing though, because I did notice some fading towards the end of the night. I believe that these are becoming progressively less available in stores. On Maybelline's website they are listed as discontinued, but they are usually at Wal-Mart, so I really have no idea. I hope that they aren't discontinued, I really enjoy these unique mousse blushes!

My First Bobbi Brown Purchase!

I received the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for my 18th birthday in March. I've been using it EVER SINCE. I use clean fingers to apply it to the upper part of my cheekbones for a light, natural, flush. I've used a foundation brush to apply it, and that works too, but I like to use the warmth of my fingers to blend it in. Using a foundation sponge just seems to soak up all of the product.

Claims:

What it really is:
The "Pot Rouge" is a cream blush. Most cream blushes I've tried have been too sheer, but this one is somewhere in between sheer and opaque coverage. It's medium coverage that is very buildable. I never apply my cream blush over powder, because it looks cakey.  I usually apply this after I have done my foundation. If you don't wear foundation, it would still look great on bare skin. (Which is great if you're in a rush). It's very natural looking, and there are shades to suit everyone. It's effortless to blend, especially with fingers. I wore it for my prom and the color looked fresh all night!

I love that they can be used for both, lips and cheeks! I don't like the screw on lid, but this is the old packaging. The new packaging is in a compact. They changed it right after I bought mine, go figure.
