Covergirl Tru Blend Foundation

Covergirl recently relaunched their Tru Blend foundation line, which I never remember being a fan of, but decided to try anyway. Also the ad campaign had the singer Pink on the display, with her skin looking about the same shade as mine. Long story short, the foundation was too dark, it oxidized, and the formula wasn't impressive..

Here's what the new packaging looks like. There are 21 shades in the line and I chose the lightest one, Light 1.

Claims:"truBLEND Liquid Makeup is available in 21 shades and features a new shade matching system. To find your perfect blend, first determine your shade family. Second, choose your number. Coordinate complementary truBLEND products based on your number for a seamlessly flawless nude look that blends in and virtually disappears. "

Formula: The formula is thicker than most liquid foundations. I don't like the way that I can actually feel it on my skin. It's a bit cakey for my liking.

Finish: The finish was a bit dewy, but not glowy. 

Coverage: The coverage was medium. I couldn't really layer it without it looking like too much, since the formula is so thick. 

Lasting Power: I don't really know that lasting power since I couldn't wear this out of the house.

Scent: There was no scent.

Packaging: I think the bottle is bulky, but  I do like the pump though.

Price/Availability: I paid $10.50 at CVS

• Coverage was 'ok'

Overall:
Covergirl foundations have never impressed me in the past, but I wasn't expecting this foundation to let me down as much as it did. I really had high hopes that this foundation would work for me color-wise, especially since they claimed that the line will match 99% of women, AND since they had models with similar complexions to mine on the ads. 

I really didn't have anything to like about this foundation other than the pump. The formula was very thick, making application more difficult than it should be. The coverage was alright, and the finish was a little dewy. I think over ten dollars is ridiculous for the overall quality of this foundation. Revlon Colorstay is a bit cheaper, and it's my holy grail. So I would never repurchase Tru Blend again, since it really did nothing for me.

It's incredibly misleading to use women with pale, cool skin tones on the ad/commercials, and not actually have a color in the line that pale women could use. I always find most makeup product ads to be ridiculous, but Covergril takes the cake this time. Just look at the color swatch on the website, it's totally different from what you actually get!

L'Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation

I'm not familiar with liquid to powder products, I guess that's why I was so compelled to give this stuff a try! L'oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder claims to give the skin a 'perfect bare skin finish'. Even though this is an interesting product for the drugstore, it left me unimpressed.

The bottle reads: Magic Nude Liquid Powder. Bare Skin Perfecting Makeup, Octinoxate SPF 18, Broad Spectrum SPF 18.

Claims: "Perfect, flawless complexion- minimizes appearance of imperfections. SPF 18"

Formula: The formula isn't exactly liquid to powder. It's really a liquid that doesn't set at all. A powder is needed. The consistency is very runny.

Finish: The finish is dry, it made certain parts of my face look very dry (please refer to my video review).

Coverage: The coverage is very light, it can be built up to almost medium if you play around with it, which isn't exactly practical for me.

Lasting Power: This started to melt off right after I applied it, it wouldn't last a minute without being set with some kind of powder.

Scent: This has a strong alcohol/sunscreen/baby powder scent.

Packaging: This bottle is made of glass that is frosted at the top. There is a twist off cap, and tons of product can be wasted when pouring, so be careful! 

Price/Availability: I paid $10+ at Harmon's in Bed Bath and Beyond.

Likes:

• Color matches decently
• Interesting idea for drugstore

Dislikes:

• Coverage is too light
• Scent is strong
• Packaging is wasteful
• Lasting power is horrible
• Finish makes my skin look unflattering
• Doesn't live up to claims

Overall:

I think that the idea L'Oreal had was nice, but the formula doesn't live up to it's claims at all and really needs improvement. This foundation never exactly set to a powder finish for me, even when I tried applying it with my fingers, which is the recommended way! I waited over 30 minutes for it to dry with each method that I used to apply it, and it  accentuated my pores. The lasting power is a joke, the scent is too strong, the coverage isn't enough, and the price just isn't worth the quality. It made my skin look awful, and my current foundation works perfectly fine. It was nice to try something new, but all in all Magic Nude Liquid Powder is definitely not magical.

Flower Beauty About Face Foundation

World-famous actress and CoverGirl Drew Barrymore recently launched her own line of affordable cosmetics exclusively at Wal-Mart. The entire Flower Beauty line is cruelty-free, made in the USA,  and claims to be formulated with the same ingredients as luxury makeup! 

I bought four different products from the line total: the About Face Foundation, Shadow Play Eyeshadow Quad, Color Play Cream Shadow, and Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color (I posted on Instagram about it). First, I would like to talk about my experience with the About Face Foundation in shade LF1, the lightest shade available.

The packaging is nice at first glance, but a bit chunky for my taste. The bottle is made of thick glass, and the logo is cute. The rose-gold accents add a decorative touch.

Ok, this was the part I wasn't so happy about. This foundation has a pump, however it got jammed into the top. It was impossible to get out. I've never had this happen to me with a foundation before. It certainly didn't remind me of luxury.

On the left, the foundation is  freshly applied. It looks too dewy without a powder! Also, my freckles and redness were barely covered. On the right, is the foundation with powder and full face makeup. (The eyeshadow and lipstick are also from Flower Beauty, which I will be reviewing soon). I do like that this shade is fair enough to match my cool skin tone.

Claims:"Skin-smoothing moisture, Natural, seamless coverage, Smoothes imperfections and evens tone, Vitamins C&E for anti-aging benefits, Fragrance-free, Paraben-free"

Formula: This formula was too thick! I had a very difficult time applying this without it looking streaky and patchy. I tried using my fingers, various brushes, and eventually a sponge (which worked best for me).  It also felt slippery when I tried buffing it into my skin.

Coverage: The coverage is very sheer, which is a bit odd for a thick foundation. It was pretty much impossible for me to build up the tricky formula. 

Finish: The finish is too dewy for my skin. Without powder, it  looked horribly greasy. 

Lasting Power: I barely had four hours of wear before I needed a touch up.  The glowy finish peeks through rather quickly. I was touching up all night..

Scent: There was no scent to this foundation. 

Packaging: The bottle is cheap, my pump didn't even work! Instead, I had to wipe product from the wand of the pump. The design was a bit bulky, it's not my favorite look.

Price/Availability: I paid $15 with tax at Wal-Mart

Dislikes:

• Formula is too thick
• Difficult to apply
• Looks greasy without a powder
• Doesn't last long/needs multiple touch ups
• Didn't cover redness and freckles well

Overall: 

The About Face Foundation didn't live up to any of it's claims, other than being unscented. I was expecting something easy to work with and of light consistency. Instead, I felt that this foundation was extremely difficult to work with and impossible to build coverage. It needs to be set with a powder, unless you want to look extremely dewy. I can't imagine it lasting long without a powder either, since I barely had four hours wear with a powder and setting spray! The packaging was broken before I even used it. Nothing about this foundation felt high quality.

For fifteen dollars at the drugstore, I expect something incredible. Especially when this line is supposed to mimic cosmetics of high-quality. There is a wide range of shades to choose from, which I appreciate. Fair shades are hard to come by at the drugstore, but that one aspect isn't good enough for me to keep using this foundation. Unfortunately, this product was a big disappointment. 

Wet N' Wild Coverall Cream Foundation and Powder

As some of you know, Wet N Wild is adding tons of new products into their entire line for spring 2013!  Drugstore cream foundations are hard to come by, especially in lighter shades. This foundation range contains seven shades, and I chose the lightest one, 815 Fair. I also decided to try the powder, since Wet N' Wild had coupons on their packaging! I only spent about $6.50 to try both items, which is a great deal! 

I already had a feeling that these were both going to be too dark for me, but I kept my hopes up because of my experience with the Revlon Nearly Naked foundation. Unfortunately, the foundation and the powder looked orange on my skin, and the formula wasn't very forgiving.

Coverall Cream Foundation
Claims: "All day wear, satin-matte finish, Visibright complex reduces the appearance of wrinkles and rejuvenates skin."
Formula: The formula is very matte, but it did not look satiny at all. It actually enlarged the appearance of my pores and emphasized fine lines, because the foundation settled into them. 
Coverage: The coverage is the only good thing about this foundation. It gives an overall even tone (although it was orange on me) and hides blemishes and redness, even freckles if desired.
Finish: I would say that the finish is matte and a bit drying. It didn't brighten the appearance of my skin, in fact it made it appear duller than it was before. The overall feel of this foundation is thick, and heavy. I just didn't like the way it sat on my skin, and didn't blend evenly.
Lasting Power: I felt very uncomfortable wearing this foundation, and removed it quickly.  I didn't wear it long enough to determine the true staying power. 
Scent: There is no scent to this foundation.
Packaging: The foundation comes in a tube with a twist off cap. The nozzle allows the foundation to be squeezed out easily. I really liked the packaging!
Price/Availability: I paid $3.50 at Walgreens ( It came with a $1 off coupon)

Wet N Wild Coverall Pressed Powder
Claims: "All day, weightless wear, Visibright complex reduces the appearance of wrinkles and rejuvenates skin."
Formula: This is just a standard pressed powder. It felt smooth to the touch, and didn't contain any shimmer. The powder was completely orange on my skin! 
Coverage: I would say that the coverage is full. After I applied the powder with a brush, it looked very matte, and you could definitely tell that I had powder on. 
Finish: The overall look of this powder is very artificial. The shade was completely off and the finish was so matte that made my skin look very unnatural. 
Scent: There is no scent to this powder.
Packaging: The plastic, rectangular packaging does contain a small sponge, but no mirror. I prefer my powders to come with a mirror for on-the-go touch ups. The sponge doesn't work very well and feels cheap.
Price/Availability: I paid $2.50 at Walgreens ( It came with a $1 off coupon)

Likes:

• The packaging on the foundation is great, very hygienic and easy to control the amount of product
• Both products are unscented
• Both products are affordable

Dislikes:

• The overall finish on both products looked artificial
• The shades were both orange on my skin
• The foundation felt thick and heavy/ uncomfortable to wear
• Both products were difficult to blend
• The formula of the foundation made my skin look dull/dry and emphasized my pores and fine lines
• The powder comes with a cheap sponge and no mirror
• The shade range only has beige tones, nothing dark or light

Overall
I was having high hopes for this foundation and powder, but they were both the wrong shade and did absolutely nothing for my complexion. I just couldn't stand how thick and heavy the cream foundation felt on my face. It made my pores look gigantic, and highlighted every fine line. The coverage was definitely there, but orange isn't my shade. The powder was equally disappointing. The shade was also very orange, and the finish was harsh and artificial. Both products were difficult to blend. Unfortunately, these products just didn't work for my skin. I won't be repurchasing them in the future, in fact I have already returned them. If you have fine lines, pale or dark skin, or dry skin of any kind I would recommend skipping these.

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation

I love trying out new foundations, especially when they are affordable! Finding pale shades can be a difficult task, which is why I am not much of an explorer of foundation in general. When I saw this shade of the Nearly Naked range, I honestly thought it would not be light enough for me. To my surprise, it matched beautifully! 

The shade that I bought is Vanilla, the lightest of the range that was available at my Target. The Revlon website states that there are 16 shades total.  Ivory is the lightest shade, but I can't seem to find it in my drugstores. Although Vanilla had a slight yellow undertone, it managed to match well against my cool toned skin. 

Claims: "Revlon’s breakthrough nearly naked makeup balances skin and makeup so they work in perfect harmony. With buildable coverage and seamless blending, you are sure to cover flaws and perfect your skin’s tone and texture. No heavy cakey or greasy mess."
Formula: Nearly Naked is a thin, but not watery, liquid foundation. I have never used such a thin foundation before, but I really enjoyed the way it felt so light, and still had the ability to even out my skin tone and cover any blemishes. 
Coverage: The coverage is sheer, but is very buildable to medium coverage. It covered my redness and blemishes, but in order to cover freckles it needed to be layered. It doesn't dry quickly, so there is definitely time to blend and build. I found that it was easiest to build the coverage after I waited for the foundation to settle into my skin for a few minutes.
Finish:The finish was semi-matte. It made my skin look flawless, but still had a natural appearance. This foundation absolutely made my skin look flawless. 
Lasting Power: I have combination skin, an oily t-zone with normal to dry cheekbones. It lasted a normal day, about 7-8 hours before I started to get oily. Also my skin is very sensitive (I have eczema) and it didn't irritate my skin. 
Scent: There is no added scent to this foundation. It just smells like plain, normal foundation! 
Packaging: The standard bottle, no pump, just like the original Revlon Colorstay. I must say, the font is so cute. 
Price/Availability: I paid $7.50 at Target

I am so impressed at how well Nearly Naked matched my skin tone. It definitely melted into my skin and somehow matched perfectly. It felt super light, was easy to blend, and gave me a flawless finish!  

Likes:

• Feels light, breathable
• Easy to blend
• Builds coverage well (covered redness, blemishes, freckles)
• Gives a natural, yet flawless appearance
• Lasted 7-8 hours
• Affordable and available at drugstores
• Has 16 shades availavble

Dislikes:

• The one thing about this foundation is that you can't apply it near your eyes (it specifically states on the bottle), so you will need a concealer or another foundation for that area.

Overall:
I have never used anything so weightless that gave me such great coverage. Nearly Naked managed to cover all redness and conceal blemishes, and even my freckles when I layered it. The thin formula allowed for a super easy application and smooth blending. What really amazed me was that the color matched my skin so well, for a foundation that has a slight yellow tinge. I am so glad that I can say that I have found another wonderful drugstore foundation that works on my fair skin! 

L'Oreal Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation

There aren't many drugstore foundations on the market that claim a souffle-like texture. That's why I was so excited to finally try this foundation! It claims to give a smooth, poreless appearance. Unfortunately, this did not happen for me.

I usually shy away from jar foundations, because I really hate how bulky they are. As you can see, about half of the jar is extra packaging. The lid twists off, revealing the foundation. 

This is the lightest shade that they offer. It was hard for me to tell at the store if it would match or not, but as soon as I opened it, I knew it wouldn't. It looks like an orange marshmallow in the jar!

Ingredients:

This foundation felt like marshmallow fluff. It had an amazing texture, but the color was just way too warm for me. It's quite a thick foundation, so it does feel and look like you're wearing makeup. It makes the skin look dull in my opinion. Not what I'm looking for in a foundation. 

Likes:

• feels soft and smooth to the touch

Dislikes:

• not enough shades
• all of the shades look warm toned 
• changed texture when blended out/doesn't blend well
• bulky packaging
• messy application
• makes skin look dull
• feels heavy/looks cakey with powder
• poor value (I paid $16.50 at CVS, ridiculous!)

Overall: 

This foundation didn't work for me at all. I feel like the shade selection is a joke, everything is like a beige color. There were no cool toned shades at all, and no dark shades either! That's one of my biggest annoyances when it comes to foundation. The texture felt nice, but it didn't blend out properly, and changed to a clumpy texture. It was really heavy looking, and also made my skin look flat, lifeless, and orange. It was an all-around horrible foundation for me. I wouldn't recommend this to anybody, ever! 

Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation Review

After hearing such rave reviews from some of my favorite beauty bloggers, I just had to try the new Revlon Colorstay "Whipped" foundation! Plus, I am a foundation fanatic, and I tend to give in whenever a new one hits the shelves! Especially when it's from one of my favorite brands, Revlon.

This jar is absolutely huge and bulky! There is only 0.8 fluid ounces of actual product.

See what I'm talking about? Just look at how much extra packaging there is! UGH. It's so difficult to store. I can't stand bulky packages. It's unnecessary! 

I bought the lightest shade that this range offers: Ivory. I figured that it would match, since I'm Ivory in the liquid version of Revlon Colorstay foundation. 

The sticker peels off on the back. Which I don't like, because I might misplace it if I want to refer back to it. The ingredients are also on the back of this sticker, but the other half is on the jar. It's annoying for people who like to keep track of what they're using.

It's always nice, to me, when products have their ingredient list on them. Just in case of an emergency. You never know what you could be allergic to, or when you're going to have a reaction. That's why I like having the labels on my products. (I know it sounds a little OCD, but, it's a good thing).

Claims:

• Wears up to 24 hours. 
• Talc Free & Paraben Free
• Bouncy, whipped formula that feels ultra light and silky smooth

and here is the second half. It bugs me how it's not all on the same label. Who designed this evil peel off sticker?! Does that bother anybody else out there, or am I just crazy? 

This is what you see as soon as you screw off the lid. It's just a protective piece of plastic. However, I prefer  products that have seals, because that way, I'm certain that nobody has opened it.  I like knowing my products are untouched, clean, and brand new. 

After I removed the seal, this is what the foundation itself looks like in the jar. The texture DOES NOT feel whipped at all. It feels more like melted ice cream. (Weird comparison, but it really does). It only felt soft and silky once I blended it out onto my face, but for me, it felt heavy. Not "ultra light" as it claims. Oh yeah, and it had a very strong scent. It reminded me of how mascara smells.

I found that using a brush with this foundation is pointless, because the brushes just soak up the product and waste it. The foundation is so thick that it gunked up the brush and created lines, so I just blended with a damp sponge. I was pleased that the shade was a perfect match for my skin, but that was all I liked about this foundation. 

Here is what the completed face looks like using the Revlon Colorstay Whipped foundation, without powder or primer. I had about 9 hours of wear before I needed to touch up. (So, this doesn't last 24 hours). I have combo skin: an oily t-zone and dry to normal everywhere else. I was pleased with the coverage, however it did feel like I was wearing heavy makeup.

Likes:

• Ivory is a perfect match for my skin

Dislikes:

• $13 (with tax) for only 0.8 fluid ounces of product 
• bulky packaging
• difficult to blend
• has a strong smell
• has a "heavy" feeling on the skin
• wear isn't 24 hours
• texture isn't "whipped or bouncy" as claimed

Overall:

I didn't like this foundation, it doesn't live up to the claims, and it's just not worth the money. I would rather buy the liquid Revlon Colorstay for $10 that has 1 fluid ounce of product. I also felt that this foundation took me longer to blend than any other foundation I've tried. Once I had it on,  I felt like I was wearing a mask! I mean, it does the job, b

 I wouldn't recommend this, and I'm definitely not repurchasing it! 

NYC Smooth Skin Liquid Makeup Foundation

I'm always a sucker for trying out new foundations! 

There was a sale on NYC at my local Rite Aide, and I saw that this foundation was $4. I figured that if the foundation was good, the $4 would totally be worth it! Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. 

Claims:

• lightweight
• blendable formula for buildable
• flawless coverage
• for all skin types, dermatologist tested 
• oil free

If only that was true.. 

Texture: The consistency of this foundation is so thick that I couldn't even get it out of the bottle. I shook it, let it sit upside down for a while, but nothing. Then I decided to use a little sample spatula to scoop out some product to test it out. It was so hard to get out of the bottle. 

Coverage/Shade: The shade I bought was the lightest shade that was available 676 Ivory. It wasn't an exact match of my skin tone, so that was another problem for me since it was the lightest shade. The foundation itself did not give me a smooth finish. It felt like I was wearing thick body butter on my face! The coverage was not very buildable. The more product that you put on, the streakier it gets and the thicker it feels.It really was horrible.

Wear Time: I only wore this foundation for an hour. I couldn't handle the way it looked or felt on my face. At first, the foundation felt very dry on the skin. It dries extremely fast after application. Then, about an hour later, it became an soooo oily! It was insane that such a dry foundation could completely change to such an oily finish. 

Overall Thoughts:

• did not give "flawless coverage"
• was not blendable
• felt very thick and uneven on the skin, streaky
• does not have a lasting finish, no staying power

I really wanted to like this foundation, but it just wasn't right for me. The price was nice, but the quality of the foundation itself was not worth the money. I'll be sticking to my Revlon Colorstay and Loreal Truematch. Sometimes you can find great things at the drugstore, and sometimes you don't! That's why I love writing reviews and reading them. I will not repurchase this!

Too bad that this one didn't work out for me!
