Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Pink Frosting

When I first saw the Dream Mousse line by Maybelline, I was instantly intrigued. Mousse for your face? I'm in.

Claims:
"Air-soft formula provides luminous, long-lasting color on cheeks. Glides on smoothly and blends easily for seamless color and a natural, radiant finish. Long-wearing formula will not clog pores."
Application:
I always apply this after my foundation, with my fingers. The warmth of my fingertips blends out the blush perfectly on my skin. Using a brush causes the product to cling more on the brush instead of the skin, so fingers are best for this product. All I do to apply this is gather a dime amount on my finger and smooth onto my cheekbones in a circular motion.

Texture:
The blush is light and airy to the touch. It really does feel like mousse! it doesn't get clumpy when you smooth it on, as the Dream Mousse Foundation does.  There are noticeable chunks of glitter, which I don't fancy, but I put up with it because I love the formula so much.

Scent:
It has a slight vanilla scent to it. Nothing too strong.

Price:
$6-$8
I got mine for about $7 at Wal-Mart

Packaging:
The glass jar is so annoying to store. It's bulky and excessive. I prefer packaging that doesn't take up too much space.

Likes:
  • Effortless to blend
  • Bright color
  • Unique texture
  • Easy application
  • Gives a glow to the skin

Dislikes:
  • Bulky packaging
  • Hard to find in stores
  • Has noticeable glitter chunks
  • Not long-wearing
Overall:
I was pleased with how easily these blend out on the skin. The mousse formula really allows for effortless application. The blush does give a subtle glow and dewiness to the skin, which lives up to the claims. I'm not sure if it's long-wearing though, because I did notice some fading towards the end of the night. I believe that these are becoming progressively less available in stores. On Maybelline's website they are listed as discontinued, but they are usually at Wal-Mart, so I really have no idea. I hope that they aren't discontinued, I really enjoy these unique mousse blushes!

NYC Smooth Skin Liquid Makeup Foundation

I'm always a sucker for trying out new foundations!
There was a sale on NYC at my local Rite Aide, and I saw that this foundation was $4. I figured that if the foundation was good, the $4 would totally be worth it! Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

Claims:
  • lightweight
  • blendable formula for buildable
  • flawless coverage
  • for all skin types, dermatologist tested
  • oil free
If only that was true..

Texture: The consistency of this foundation is so thick that I couldn't even get it out of the bottle. I shook it, let it sit upside down for a while, but nothing. Then I decided to use a little sample spatula to scoop out some product to test it out. It was so hard to get out of the bottle.

Coverage/Shade: The shade I bought was the lightest shade that was available 676 Ivory. It wasn't an exact match of my skin tone, so that was another problem for me since it was the lightest shade. The foundation itself did not give me a smooth finish. It felt like I was wearing thick body butter on my face! The coverage was not very buildable. The more product that you put on, the streakier it gets and the thicker it feels. It really was horrible.

Wear Time: I only wore this foundation for an hour. I couldn't handle the way it looked or felt on my face. At first, the foundation felt very dry on the skin. It dries extremely fast after application. Then, about an hour later, it became an soooo oily! It was insane that such a dry foundation could completely change to such an oily finish.

Overall Thoughts:
  • did not give "flawless coverage"
  • was not blendable
  • felt very thick and uneven on the skin, streaky
  • does not have a lasting finish, no staying power

I really wanted to like this foundation, but it just wasn't right for me. The price was nice, but the quality of the foundation itself was not worth the money. I'll be sticking to my Revlon Colorstay and Loreal Truematch. Sometimes you can find great things at the drugstore, and sometimes you don't! That's why I love writing reviews and reading them. I will not repurchase this!

Too bad that this one didn't work out for me!

Vintage Makeup: Max Factor Grease Paint

What do I mean by vintage makeup?
I went to my local antique shop yesterday, just to browse. I ended up discovering a display case full of different vintage makeup products! Ever since I saw Lisa Eldridge's vintage makeup video I had wanted to start my own collection. It's hard to come across vintage makeup that is at a reasonable price. That's why I was so excited when I snagged this Max factor "Grease Paint" for only $5!

I just think it's amazing how far makeup has come. I'm sure that the everyday lady didn't use greasepaint. It was far too thick an unpractical for daily use. It was used for theater, I believe. It smells so old!  Yeah, i had to touch it, I promise I won't put it on my face, haha.

The Front States:
"Max Factor's Supreme Grease Paint,
Max Factor Makeup Studio
Hollywood, California
Made in U.S.A.
Net Contents: 2-3/8 OZS."

The shade is 7A

The Back States:
Max Factor's Grease Paint
Directions
"The use of cold cream before applying is never necessary. Simply dab on sparingly. Then spread greasepaint thinly and evenly until a light 'skin stain' effect is obtained. The purity of this product is backed by more than a quarter of a century of unmatched leadership in serving the makeup needs of the theatrical profession"

I like how they say the product was "backed by more than a century of unmatched leadership". I wish that products nowadays would be that true! I'm not sure what era this particular tube is from, but I'm guessing maybe somewhere in the 1940s?

What was Greasepaint?
In 1914, Max Factor released a cream greasepaint designed for the motion picture industry, that came in a jar. In the 20s, he marketed  ‘Supreme Greasepaint’.  It originally came in twelve graduated shades but increased to thirty-one shades because of its popularity.  Factor changes the packaging to collapsible tubes, because he considered it to be more convenient and sanitary. Many other brands copied his "greasepaint tube" idea after.

I would love to start collecting more of these. Hopefully I will come across a jarred greasepaint! I think that tube foundation is a good idea. It's strange how most foundations come in bottles, because it's so hard to get that last bit of product out. We need more tube foundations! ;)

I've been dying to try some present-day Max Factor products, but they aren't available in the U.S. I'll have to order some online. I've heard that the 2000 calorie mascara is amazing.

My First Bobbi Brown Purchase!

My Pot Rouge in "Pale Pink" with flash

"Pale Pink" in natural light
I received the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for my 18th birthday in March. I've been using it EVER SINCE. I use clean fingers to apply it to the upper part of my cheekbones for a light, natural, flush. I've used a foundation brush to apply it, and that works too, but I like to use the warmth of my fingers to blend it in. Using a foundation sponge just seems to soak up all of the product.

Claims:
"Our best-selling, multi-tasking cream color just got even better. It's now in a mirrored flip-top compact for on-the-spot application. Blend it on the apples of your cheeks for a just-pinched look. Blot it on your lips for a soft, stained finish. For drier skins, be sure to moisturize skin first. "

What it really is:
The "Pot Rouge" is a cream blush. Most cream blushes I've tried have been too sheer, but this one is somewhere in between sheer and opaque coverage. It's medium coverage that is very buildable. I never apply my cream blush over powder, because it looks cakey.  I usually apply this after I have done my foundation. If you don't wear foundation, it would still look great on bare skin. (Which is great if you're in a rush). It's very natural looking, and there are shades to suit everyone. It's effortless to blend, especially with fingers. I wore it for my prom and the color looked fresh all night!

There are 10 shades:
  • Blushed Rose
  • Calypso Cora
  • Chocolate Cherry
  • Fresh Melon
  • Milk Chocolate
  • Pale Pink
  • Powder Pink
  • Raspberry
  • Rose
  • Uber Beige
I love that they can be used for both, lips and cheeks! I don't like the screw on lid, but this is the old packaging. The new packaging is in a compact. They changed it right after I bought mine, go figure.
